Leadership

Leadership is vital for successful software engineering projects. Throughout my time at UTS, I have been part of many successful group projects as a team member and leader and have grown as a leader through this process.

Academic Leadership Achievements

Academically, I have led teams in successful projects multiple times, including obtaining High Distinctions in group project-focused subjects such as Software Engineering Studio 2A, Software Development Studio and Introduction to Data Engineering.

Professional Leadership Achievements

Professionally, I have expressed interest in leadership roles and have been fortunate enough to have had opportunities to practice this. While working at SkyCiv, I have taken opportunities to lead standup meetings with our international developers, mentor an intern developer through the release of their first project, and lead the implementation of new internal documentation and coding guidelines.

Style of Leadership

I would describe my leadership style as focusing on being both democratic and mentoring. These styles of leadership are what I respond to best, so I find it important that I reflect on this in my leadership ideology. I have lots of growing to do as a leader and look forward to the challenges and improvements I make in my leadership style as I continue my engineering career.

Leadership Development

One of my long-term goals as an engineer is to one day help lead a highly successful software engineering team to develop reliable and maintainable software solutions. To work towards this goal, I must address areas of my leadership that I feel I currently struggle with, including delegating, strategic thinking, negotiating, public speaking and conflict management. I plan to address these areas through experience, practice, and discussions with current and future mentors in the industry.
