Teamwork and Service

Group Projects

UTS Engineering courses strongly focus on teamwork, which is both a challenging and rewarding experience. I have been lucky enough to participate in some great team projects and work with many talented individuals during my time at UTS. This includes:

Engineering Communication

One of my earliest group projects at UTS was during my first semester. I worked with a group of first-year engineers to develop a project proposal and prototype for the “Cambodian Self-Service Market.” The project aimed to connect remote rice growers with the wider market through an SMS service. This subject demonstrated to me the value of well organised team project as the project was showcased with UTS at the 2018 Engineers Australia Conference in Sydney and was picked as an exemplar response for future students in the subject.

Software Studio 1A

One of the first software-related projects I worked on was the development of “Voluntime”, an android application that allowed people to volunteer at events that needed help. This project allowed me to experience and understand the challenges of agile team-based software development. The project received full marks (with a personal subject mark of 98) and was presented at the 2019 UTS Spring Showcase for Software Studio.

Cricket

Teamwork isn’t just important in engineering, it is vital to success in sport. Growing up, I have been fortunate enough to play many team sports. After years of little success, my cricket team recently won the premiership, with the team rewarded for years of dedication and service to the game.

Team sports have taught me many lessons about respect, responsibility and persistence and nurtured and ability to work effectively in diverse teams filled with individuals of different strengths and personalities.
